The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has released a major recruitment notification for the posts of Assistant Administrative Officer (AAO) and Assistant Engineer (AE) for 2025. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for these positions, candidates must meet the specified educational and age criteria as of August 1, 2025:
I. Educational Qualification:
AAO (Generalist): A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
AAO (Specialist): The qualification varies by post. For example, AAO (Legal) requires a Bachelor's degree in Law, while AAO (Chartered Accountant) requires a Bachelor's degree and a pass in the final CA examination.
Assistant Engineer (AE): A B.E./B.Tech degree in Civil or Electrical engineering with a minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience.
II. Age Limit: The minimum age is 21 years. The maximum age for most posts is 30 years. However, AAO (Legal) and AAO (CA) have a maximum age of 32 years. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government norms.
Selection Process
The selection for both AAO and AE posts is a three-tiered process.
I. Preliminary Examination (Phase I): This is an online, objective-type screening test.
For AAO Generalist & AE: The exam consists of three sections: Reasoning Ability (35 questions), Quantitative Aptitude (35 questions), and English Language (30 questions). The English section is qualifying in nature, and its marks are not counted for the final merit list.
The total duration is 60 minutes. There is a sectional time limit of 20 minutes for each section.
II. Main Examination (Phase II): Candidates who qualify the Prelims are eligible for the Mains. The exam pattern varies for Generalist and Specialist posts.
AAO (Generalist): This includes four objective sections (Reasoning, General Knowledge, Data Analysis & Interpretation, Insurance & Financial Market Awareness) and one descriptive paper (English Language).
AAO & AE (Specialist): This includes three objective sections (Reasoning, General Awareness, Professional Knowledge) and two descriptive papers (Professional Knowledge and English Language). The marks from the Mains exam are the primary factor for shortlisting candidates for the interview.
III. Interview & Medical Examination: Final selection is based on the marks obtained in the Mains exam and the Interview. A pre-recruitment medical examination is the final stage.
Salary and Job Profile
I. Salary: The starting basic pay for an AAO is ₹88,635 per month. The total emoluments, including various allowances, are approximately ₹1,26,000 per month in an A-class city.
II. Job Profile: An AAO's responsibilities include policy and claims administration, inter-departmental coordination, and customer grievance redressal. An AE is responsible for civil or electrical work, and maintenance of BHEL's assets. Both roles are highly respected and offer excellent career growth.
