CCRAS Research Officer (Ayurveda) Syllabus 2026

1 Dissecting the Subject-Related Syllabus :

Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Bhaishajya Kalpana: This area tests knowledge of traditional preparation processes and formulations. Examples from the paper include questions on the duration of paka when takra is used as a drava dravya as per Sarngadhara Samhitha. The paper also touches upon pharmacopoeial standards, such as the number of single-drug monographs in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, Part I, Volume IV, and the manufacturing space requirements for Rasaushadhies as per Schedule T of the Drugs and Cosmetics (D&C) Rules. Questions on specific dosage forms like ointments, elixirs, and foams are also included, indicating a focus on modern drug delivery systems alongside traditional methods.

Dravyaguna (Pharmacognosy) and Plant-Based Drugs: A significant number of questions center on the identification, properties, and usage of medicinal plants. This includes identifying the useful parts of plants like Karkatasringi and Isabgol. Knowledge of plant substitutes (e.g., substitute for Meda and Mehameda, or for Valeriana wallichi) and adulterants (e.g., adulterant of Ashoka) is also tested. Furthermore, questions on collection guidelines, such as the season for collecting Asparagus racemosus as per National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) guidelines, highlight the importance of adhering to standardized practices.

Modern Pharmaceutical Sciences and Quality Control: This is a crucial section that evaluates a candidate's grasp of modern analytical and manufacturing processes. Questions cover chemical standardization of herbs using techniques like Chromatography , and the permissible limits of heavy metals such as mercury (Hg) in herbal drugs. The paper also includes questions on reagents used for phytochemical investigations, such as Dragendorff's test for alkaloids , and various pharmaceutical equipment like dryers (e.g., Fluidized bed dryer, Freeze dryer) and separators (e.g., Cyclone separator).

Pharmacology and Clinical Evaluation: The exam assesses a candidate’s understanding of pharmacological assays and drug activity evaluation. The paper includes questions on methods like the Tail-Flick test for analgesic activity and the Actophotometer for CNS Depressant activity. This section demonstrates that the Council seeks candidates who can critically evaluate the therapeutic effects of Ayurvedic formulations using contemporary scientific methods.

2 Research Methodology :

Biostatistics: Questions from the past exam reference statistical tests such as the 't' test and 'F' test, as well as the use of software like SPSS.

Study Design and Concepts: The paper includes questions on different phases of clinical trials and modern concepts like in silico studies.

Research Ethics: The questions cover regulatory bodies and ethical guidelines, such as the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) and the 3R's of animal research, along with ethical guidelines for human subjects.

Publications and Research Output: The exam tests awareness of contemporary issues in academic publishing, including journal impact factors and the concept of predatory journals (e.g., Beall's List).
