A. Human Anatomy and Physiology Relevant to Operation Theatre Practice: Gross anatomy and functions of the Skeletal System, Respiratory System, Cardiovascular System, Nervous System, Urinary System, Alimentary System, Reproductive System, Special Senses, Endocrine Glands, Liver, Spleen and Bone Marrow.

B. Applied Physics in relation to Anaesthesia: i) Energy: Thermometry, thermistor, thermocouple. Heat capacity of gases, Newton's law of cooling, convection, conduction. Thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity. ii). Pressure: Dalton's law of partial Pressure. Pressure Gauges. Vapour pressure, Gas laws. Filling of compressed gases and filling ratio. Structure and mechanism of various types of pressure gauges, Pressure regulators and pressure reducing valves. Their maintenance and checking. Safety mechanisms in gas pipeline system. vi. Anaesthesia machine: Types, components and parts of anaesthesia machine, physical principles and functions of various parts, safety mechanisms. Disinfection and maintenance of anaesthesia machines. Method of vaporizing volatile anaesthetic agents; volatile anaesthetic agents. Chemical and physical 3 properties of volatile chemical agents. Selection of material to be used for containers of the volatile anaesthetic agents. Structure of different types of vaporizers. Principle of various vaporizers, their maintenance and safety precautions.

vii. Types and functioning of Anaesthesia ventilators. Checking and maintenance of anaesthesia ventilators.

viii. Types of single lumen Endotracheal tubes, Endotracheal tube connectors and Cleaning and sterilization of endotracheal tubes, Tracheostomy tubes, Double lumen tubes (DLTs) and microlaryngeal tubes.

ix. Types of anaesthetic Face Masks; Material, structure and importance of dead space of face mask, Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways, Magill's forceps, stylets, bougies, catheter mounts and other aids for tracheal intubation. Magill Forceps, supraglottic airway devices, curved and straight laryngoscope, video laryngoscopes, Difficult Airway Equipment, fiberoptic bronchoscopes

x. Anaesthetic breathing circuit classification: closed, semi-closed and circle system including soda lime canister etc. Functioning, testing and maintenance. xi. Monitoring techniques and equipment; Sp02, ECG, end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2), neuromuscular monitoring and Temperature monitoring of patient. Non-invasive and invasive blood pressure monitoring; Central venous pressure monitoring setup. Principles of Pressure transducer. Functioning, testing and maintenance

F. Basic Principles of Anaesthetic Drugs and Techniques:

i. Intravenous Anaesthetic Agents, Inhalational Anaesthetic Agents, Neuromuscular Blockers, Opioids and Non-opioid Analgesics, Benzodiazepines, Reversal Drugs, Local Anaesthetics. Antiemetic,

ii. Pharmacology of Adrenaline, noradrenaline, mephenteramine, ephedrine and vasopressin. Pharmacology of atropine, glycopyrrolate. Pharmacology of drugs used for nebulization of asthma patients. Pharmacology of hypotensive drugs like sodium nitroprusside, nitroglycerin, esmolol and metoprolol.

iii. Pharmacology of drugs used with local anaesthetics as adjuncts in peripheral nerve blocks eg clonidine, demedetomedine, fentanyl and dexamethasone.

iv. Spinal and epidural blocks; equipment, types of spinal and epidural needles, their structure. Instruments used for spinal and epidural blocks. Positioning for spinal, epidural and caudal anaesthesia. Equipment and drugs for regional 4 anaesthesia. Cervical plexus, Brachial Plexus and lumbar plexus and lumbar sympathetic blocks.

v. Role of operation theatre technician in regional anaesthesia.

vi. Principles and uses of nerve stimulator in nerve blocks, its advantages and disadvantages.

vii. Principles of Ultrasound and its use in regional anaesthesia and nerve blocks, its advantages and disadvantages.

G. Fundamentals of Surgical Techniques and Instrumentation:
